Collection Title: Sweet Commotion
Bio
As a young girl, Sara was drawn to the world of fashion and art design, teaching herself how to sew at the age of 12. Soon after, her hobby developed into a passion. When she entered high school, she started taking fashion design classes to learn proper technique and skill. After school hours, Sara enjoyed assisting in designing and sewing the costumes for her school’s theatre department. During her career at NC State’s Wilson College of Textiles, she has shown her work in the 2016 THREADS Preshow and competed as 1 of 6 finalists in the American Heart Association’s “Hemline for Hearts” competition in January of 2017. Apart from school, Sara enjoys practicing yoga, painting, music, and traveling. She is an alumni of Sigma Kappa Sorority and will graduate in the spring of 2018 with a Bachelor’s degree in Fashion and Textile Management.
Collection Description
Inspired by the “Riot Grrrls,” a feminist punk movement by musicians during the 1990’s, “Sweet Commotion” is a ready-to-wear collection designed for the young female who is beginning to establish herself in the world, but still searching for her “place”. The collection is made to display her inner frustrations and fierceness in a mature style. With a cross between sophistication and modern day punk, “Sweet Commotion” is made of interchangeable pieces that can be worn in both casual and formal occasions.
