Bio:

Destini Morton is a senior at NC State University majoring in Fashion and Textile Management with a concentration in Fashion Development and Product Management. She was born and raised in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. Although she grew up in a small city, she has always had big dreams of working in the fashion industry. Destini has known that she’s wanted to be in fashion since she was five years old, the age at which she drew what her future luxury brand store would look like, along with her first set of sketches.

Collection Description:

Destini’s collection is named Ayaba, meaning “Queen” in the African language of Yoruba. Her collection was inspired by “The Lion King: The Gift”, a musical album by Beyoncé. Her ideation process was to create a look that she could visualize the artist wearing while performing the songs. Her choice in silhouettes was derived from gowns that she longed to make prior to the collection. She utilized Beyoncé’s “Black Is King” production for inspiration in color scheme and fabrication choice. She loves the feedback about her collection as it is described to present a view of the “modern day Disney princess”. With her collection, she hopes to provide women with a sense of self love and recognition of the Queen within themselves.
