Collection Concept
GONE (FISHING) is based on my love and fear of the ocean. Growing up in a beach town, I’ve always loved the ocean and have been fascinated by the creatures that live in it. Though beautiful, the ocean is a harsh place. Death in the ocean is a common and resourceful process. Gone (Fishing) is a collection that reframes the idea of death from one that is scary to one that is necessary. Whales are beautiful, majestic creatures, but when they die, they fall to the ocean floor and are able to support and feed hundreds of organisms. Life continues after loss, and this collection works to highlight that continuity. The collection takes inspiration from typical fishing gear as well as other forms of garments typically used in outdoor work and activities with details inspired by fish and the ocean.
