Collection Title: Proscenium

Bio

My name is Lexi Cunningham, and I am a senior in FTM Product Development finishing up my last semester at NC State. The Threads Show has been a long-time dream of mine, as I have attended each year, since I was a freshman in high school.

I took ballet for around 10 years, and after watching many performances, I became inspired by the grand theatres and stages that surround the dancers. I wanted to create a collection based on the arches, ceilings, and curtains of these theatres.  After graduation, I hope to start my career in the fashion industry, working in Product Development or Buying.

Collection Concept

My collection is inspired by the concept of a Proscenium, a part of a theater stage that frames the view between the audience and the actors. This idea of framing and separation is echoed in the design elements, using velvet fabrics similar to those of curtains, and tile repeats that exhibit the same designs used in the ceilings of theatres. I have incorporated the same arches and curves seen in these theaters into the silhouettes of my pieces. The collection exhibits the same class and elegance as these elaborate theatres and the performers on stage.
